A tree for Marion

We held a short service to celebrate the life of Marion who was called to higher service in July 2013.

A tree in her memory was planted at
The Brambles on 10th May at 2.30pm.

On a very wet Saturday afternoon Marion's family and friends gathered at The Brambles to plant a whitebeam tree in her memory. Marion, a founding member of the Brambles committee passed away a year ago and is very much missed by all who knew her.

About one hundred people gathered under grey skies to take part in a service of remembrance. An honour guard drawn from the Guides & Scouts from Holy Cross church Greenford, formed up near to our flag pole flying the Union Flag. The welcome and opening was carried out by Jim Hunter MBE and was followed by poetry and readings by her family. The tree planting, by her husband Roy and their family including their grandchildren, commenced in the rain. Just as the first spade of soil was picked up the sun came shining out which was wonderful. An appreciation of Marion's life was conducted by Steve Pound MP Ealing North a long time friend of both Marion and the whole Brambles, Scouting & Guiding community in Greenford. He gave an uplifting oration which was both sad and inspiring at the same time illustrating, from the personal point of view of everyone who was there, the contribution that Marion made to our community. The service concluded with the hymn, Jerusalem. The last post and reveille were played by Paul Douglas, Principle Cornet BA Band, whom Marion had seen play many times at the BA Band concerts. The colours were marched out and the tribute to Marion was concluded when tea and refreshments were provided by leaders from the Guides & Scouts of Holy Cross.

The Brambles committee would like to thank all who came along and braved the weather to leave a lasting tribute to Marion.
