BRAMBLES OUTDOOR CENTRE

The Activity Centre of Holy Cross, Greenford Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Cub Scouts, Rainbows & Beavers

We are entering exciting times!

Brambles is to receive extra amenities! Ealing Primary Centre are extending their school. The committee were initially very concerned as the London Borough of Ealing are providing the school with  new fenced play areas within the Brambles Outdoor Centre grounds. A small reservoir (500mm deep) is to be constructed in our largest copse. This is to hold surface water from the school extension. The water will be diverted into the underground culvert that runs under our site.  Our lease with LBE will be changed to ensure that our rights and responsibilities are protected. Unfortunately, initially, the activity areas available to people using Brambles will be diminished until the new grass is established.

Our Centre and the Schools are there for the use and development of young people and we all have their interests at heart. To that end, some of our committee members met representatives of LBE and an agreement was made to enhance some of the Brambles' facilities for our scouts, guides & other groups to use.

LBE will be providing replacement camping areas and our pond is to be filled in.  The new camping pitches are to be created by clearing existing patches of brambles and undergrowth. A replacement building for our tools etc. will be provided. As our drains will need to be diverted it is an ideal time for us to provide and have installed a purpose built disabled toilet.  LBE are fitting a calor gas heated shower unit for Brambles' exclusive use. Both are similar in appearance to the type used at festivals or other temporary sites but connected to the main drainage system.   A new disabled access ramp is going to give better access to our grounds from the car park. The reservoir will be maintained by LBE and Brambles' users will have access and use of the fenced and gated area which is to be landscaped.

The  groundwork for the Brambless is to be completed first and it is expected to be finished by the end of September 2018.  The school extension will follow and will take several weeks. To ensure that our site is safe to use we  decided to close it down until 1st April 2019 as there will be unknown people on site and probably open trenches and stored materials. This is not as difficult as it first appears as we are normally closed from 1st October until 1st April! The closure will be reviewed in light of the ongoing school extension if necessary.

We hope to have photos of the ongoing work and look forward to having a much improved site for use next year.
