The Activity Centre of Holy Cross, Greenford Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Cub Scouts, Rainbows & Beavers

About Us

We (the committee of Scout & Guide Leaders and Volunteers) manage and maintain a centre adjacent to a local school in the London Borough of Ealing. The Centre has a camping area for a maximum of 24 people, woodland trails, campfire circle and wildlife pond covering about 1.5 acres.  It is used by our Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Cub Scouts, Rainbows and Beavers at Holy Cross Church , Greenford and in addition the centre is available to the local adjacent schools and nationally/internationally via the Scout Base website. The Centre, over the course of a year, has about 500-600 visits. Of course, some of these will be repeat visits!  We have car parking space with disability access to our facilities.  The lodge building contains a fully equipped kitchen, meeting area, toilets and a covered veranda.

We host a summer 9 hole pitch and putt 'The Brambles Golf Challenge' played by both our younger & older friends.

Our main fundraising event is Brambles Mid-Summer Gala held in June within the nearby Rectory garden of Holy Cross Church, Greenford.
We host the occasion (with the kind permission of the Rector) and invite other registered charities to come along and raise funds for their organisations.  We charge a nominal entry fee and run our own plant stall and games pitch. A short description of our origin and grounds -

Brambles well.....  It all started in the mid 1980's and in time became the activity centre for all Holy Cross Scouting and Guiding groups. The grounds are around 1.5 acres of grass and woodland.  We have  a number of different varieties of trees some of which were planted in commemoration of people and events, others to replace our elms dying from Dutch elm disease. The grounds have several short nature trails, with benches and seats strategically placed to allow leaders and guests to sit and take in our unique setting in suburbia! The Brambles is used by local organisations and national groups alike. It is a haven for wildlife with  foxes, butterflies and birds making it their home. We have bluebells in the spring and even a few wild flowers. We are often visited by woodpeckers, ducks, owls and hawks. Even the local cats enjoy a stroll through the woods.

A phrase that is oft repeated is
'you wouldn't think that you are in the middle of suburban Greenford'
and long may it remain so!!!
